What a Year!

We're into the final week of classes, and it is starting to sink in. Celebrate Gannon last Friday gave us a chance to reflect back on all we have accomplished since last August. And, we got to pose with President Iwanenko at our broadcast table! In media, constantly meeting deadlines, there are precious few chances to actually look back on successes - it's "on to the next task." So... in a nutshell...

We broadcast 24 hours a day. Rock music during the week, Super Soul Saturday, and various community programming on Sunday. 168 hours of programming... every single week. In addition, there were some memorable highlights:

  • The live broadcast from the IgKnight Activities Fair kicked-off the year as we all gathered back on campus in August.

  • A whole new group of freshmen took to the airwaves in early September!

  • On September 22, when Dr. Walter Iwanenko was inaugurated as Gannon University's eighth president, we carried the ceremony live.

  • We celebrated World College Radio Day on October 6.

  • All Knight Live happened on December 13 as our DJ's pulled an "All-Knighter" during Finals Week.

  • Our 19th Annual presentation of A Golden Christmas aired on December 22.

  • We counted-down the Top 90 of 2023: December 12th and again on December 29th.

  • Several of us attended the 85th annual Intercollegiate Broadcasting System media conference in Manhattan over Spring Break. We came home with two national awards for content and leadership!

  • Live broadcasts all over campus, including the Career Fair at I-HACK, Commuter Awareness Days, and both editions of Commencement Kickoff (fall and spring).

  • We are the radio home of Golden Knights Football and Basketball - and we rode the wave of excitement for both basketball teams as they made deep runs into the post-season, culminating in appearances in their respective Elite 8 tournaments.

  • Our News Director launched a new campus spot-news feature, Knight Life.

  • We were at McConnell Family Stadium on April 8 during the Solar Eclipse.

  • We've had dozens of guests on Sonic Sunrise and the Prime Time Sports Guys over the year, including Scott Mitchell (ZooBoo), Shawn Bednard (Erie Otters), Aaron Mook (Erie HorrorFest), Ray Luniewski (Zabawa Polish Festival), Sean Peebles (Cleveland Cavaliers), Chuck Pora (author), Natalie Massing (Second Harvest), Dr. David Horne (solar eclipse), Jim Griffey (retired Erie broadcaster and WERG alum), Joel Natalie (TalkErie), Coaches Wright and Fee (Gannon basketball), Jessica Hunter (Erie Reader), Dr. Eric Brownlee (Gannon service trip to Super Bowl LVIII), Dave Richards ("Dr. Rock"), and Dave Tamulonis (Erie Downtown Partnership).

And we're not done quite yet! Stay-tuned for end-of-semester festivities, including another All Knight Live broadcast on May 1. Also, as always, we'll be here all summer, so take us with you: over the air at 90.5-FM, and on-line world-wide here at wergfm.com.

Go Knights and enjoy the break!
