Right after Commencement exercises here in Erie this past weekend, we learned the sad news that Mel Himes had passed-away. "Major Mel" was a fixture for many, many years on our Sunday Polka Party show. He was also a valuable member of our engineering staff and could be relied-upon to "tinker" with the equipment when needed. The photo shows Major Mel at a live on-location broadcast from the Blasco Library in 2006. Mel was 66, and we at 90.5 WERG send our thoughts and prayers out to his friends and family.
