90.5 WERG
Innovative programming:
Our students manage the operation and performance of 90.5 WERG’s Alternative Rock format: music, news, and audio production. The set format creates a culture of “bounded creativity” to learn the art and craft of content creation. Super Soul Saturday on the weekends is helmed by a dedicated group of community volunteers and has been a signature of our lineup for decades, serving Erie’s African American communities.
How the station reaches and serves its listeners:
WERG functions as a unique learning laboratory for our students while providing our community with music, information, and entertainment not offered elsewhere on the dial. Our terrestrial broadcast signal is available throughout the tri-state region surrounding northwestern Pennsylvania.
Commitment to the community:
90.5 WERG embeds our programming into the fabric of our community’s culture. Guests from campus and Erie frequently appear on Sonic Sunrise, Super Soul Saturday, The Prime-Time Sports Guys, and other shows.
Special considerations or hurdles encountered and how they were overcome:
With recent gifts, grants, and partnerships we have augmented our programming and technical infrastructure: an affiliation with NBC NewsRadio, a new I.P. STL link, and remote broadcast capability for Golden Knights athletics events and on-location broadcasts.
